President
Sheryl Brown
Sheryl Brown has been a court reporter for over 32 years, reporting
depositions, arbitrations, and hearings. She was co-owner
of Brooks & Ojeda in Oakland for 20 years and has owned Brooks & Brown
Reporters in Eureka for the last six years. She believes
that legal secretaries, paralegals, and legal assistants are vital
links in providing efficient service to her clients and wanted
to be a part of their organization. She served as Program
Chair her first year with HCLPA, was elected to the position of
Secretary for 2008-2009, then President for 2009-2010 and 2010-2011. She
enjoys cooking, baking, and spending time with her husband, friends,
and family, especially her four granddaughters and two grandsons. |

Vice
President, Michele Shoshani
Michele has been a member of HCLPA for over a year. She
currently works as an Executive Secretary to the Humboldt County
District Attorney in Eureka.
Her legal experience spans several good years. A career that
started when Michele decided she needed a job that will enable
her to find a position anywhere in the United States. She
started in San Francisco as a Corporate legal Secretary - Heller
Ehrman, moved to Seattle and spent 5 years in litigation (Aviation)
with Lane Powell Spears Lubersky, continued to Boston as Legal
Secretary (Corporate) at Bingham Dana. While in Boston she
was head-hunted for the position of Senior Executive Aid to the
CFO of Polaroid. Five years later, Michele returned to the
Bay Area and worked as the Executive Assistant of the CEO
of Sephora, and then migrated back to the legal field as Senior
Legal Secretary for a principal partner in the Global Equity Services
Department of Baker & McKenzie. She has a B.A. in English & Romance
Languages, an M.A. in French, a Teachers’ Credentials and an acting
diploma.
Her prior chairmanship position was with the airlines, when she
was nominated and served as the President of the Airport Secretaries
Association in San Francisco |

Treasurer,
Beth Herrmann
Beth has been on the audit committee for 3 years. She has an AS
degree in Legal Assistancy, as well as a certificate in paralegal
studies. She obtained her CLA designation through NALA in 2007.
Beth’s main areas of interest in law are estate planning, probate,
Business Law, and Criminal Law.

Secretary,
Ann Maxcy
Ann Maxcy works at Davis & Poovey, Inc. in Eureka, in the
areas of family law, probate, and general legal work. She has a
papralegal certificate and a B.A.in Classics. Her obsessions are
flower gardening, knitting, and the Bulwer-Lytton contest.

Gina M. Emery, CCLS, Governor
Gina M. Emery, CCLS, has been in the legal field for over 30 years,
and is currently employed at Mathews, Kluck, Walsh & Wykle,
LLP, in Eureka, as a paralegal in the areas of civil litigation,
estate planning, and transactional law. She received her
AA degree in Legal Secretary Science from Mt. San Antonio Jr. College
in Walnut, California, and her paralegal certificate from College
of the Redwoods in Eureka, California. Gina obtained her
CCLS designation in 2003. She has been a member of LSI for
over 20 years, formerly as a member of Del Norte County Legal Secretaries
Association (DNCLSA) and currently with HCLPA (since 1999). Gina
has held numerous chairmanships with both of these associations
and held office as President (DNCLSA), Governor, Secretary (DNCLSA),
and Vice President. |
